What firewall requirements are there for my network?

To ensure optimal functionality and security of WiFi-connected devices, consider the following firewall configurations:

LeakNet

For LeakNet devices to work, allow connections to:

  • *.spark.io (CoAP port 5683)
  • *.particle.io (CoAP port 5683)

Use 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n WiFi with WPA2-PSK security. See this article if you are having trouble with WiFi.

Important Security Notes

  • Avoid less secure WiFi protocols: Opt for the strongest security protocol your device supports (ideally WPA2-PSK).
  • Monitor data usage: The 4MB daily usage for LeakNet should be typical. Unexpectedly high data transfers could indicate unauthorized activity.

FlowReporter

For the FlowReporter app to work, allow connections to the wildcard domains listed below:

  • *.flowreporter.com
  • *.auth0.com
  • *.google.com
  • *.gstatic.com
  • *.googleapis.com
  • *.esm.sh
  • *.clarity.ms
  • *.statuspage.io
  • *.amazonaws.com

Explanation of Terms

  • Firewall: A network security system that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing traffic based on predetermined rules.
  • Wildcard domain: A domain name using an asterisk (*) to match multiple subdomains.
  • CoAP: A lightweight protocol often used in IoT (Internet of Things) devices.
  • WPA2-PSK A robust WiFi security protocol.

Additional Tips

  • Consult your WiFi device's documentation for any further specific firewall recommendations.
  • If you're unsure about configuring your firewall, seek help from a network security professional.
